1 Nephi 6:4-6

"For the fulness of mine intent is that I may persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be saved.

Wherefore, the things which are pleasing unto the world I do not write, but the things which are pleasing unto God and unto those who are not of the world.

Wherefore, I shall give commandment unto my seed, that they shall not occupy these plates with things which are not of worth unto the children of men."

Write in your "record" or journal things of a spiritual nature that can help teach others the Gospel and help others (especially your children and grandchildren) come unto Christ. Try not to focus on very worldy things that don't matter to others who will read it months and years after it is written.

  1. The other cool thing I love about this scripture is that it witnesses to the relevance of the Book of Mormon. Although I'm sure HF gave similar counsel to those who kept records in the Old and New Testaments, the BoM makes it especially clear that the people who wrote the record knew exactly WHY they were doing it, and WHAT needed to be included. I suppose this is why it's the book that can bring us closer to HF and our Savior than any other book. Thanks for sharing these verses!!
